K-1 Writing Fundamentals
2-12 TELPAS Writing Readiness
Students will submit their answers for these activities and Summit K12 will score those answers. Activities instructing the student to enter a letter, word, or complete sentence will be scored following standard writing conventions in an online setting to mirror the TELPAS environment.
Writing Item Types which require students to submit a constructed response (Type 3) are not auto-scored by Summit K12 AI and must be scored by the teacher. Please view the following articles for additional assistance:

Scoring Constructed Responses in Assessments - TELPAS
Item Types 1-2 in grades K-1 and Type 2 in grades 2-12 will auto-score students according to the following categories:
- Capitalization
- Spelling
- Punctuation
- Spacing
Capitalization
Students' responses will be scored based on the proper use of letter capitalization. Improper capitalization will not impact the correctness of a student's response in a K-1 course.
Spelling
Students' responses will be scored for accurate spelling or letter identification.
Punctuation
Students’ responses will be scored for appropriate punctuation, including but not limited to, the use of periods, commas, and apostrophes. Students must use an English language keyboard when typing.
Punctuation is not addressed in Kindergarten and, therefore, will not be factored into students’ scores.
Spacing
Students' responses will also be scored for suitable spacing. Excessive spaces between characters or before/after a typed entry could result in a student's response getting marked as incorrect.
