The Holistic Writing Practices are opportunities for students to practice the Writing Process prior to submitting the required writing samples for TELPAS. The writing prompts in this particular module are separate from a student's Reading-Writing PLP and will need to be unlocked by the teacher before students can begin working on them.
This component of Connect to Literacy follows the Writing Process outlined below.
Student Draft
1. Students will navigate to their TELPAS Readiness course and select Reading-Writing > Writing > TELPAS Holistic Writing Practice and click Start for the composition unlocked by their teacher.
2. Students will read the Writing Prompt.
3. Then, they will type their first draft in the provided text box.
4. Click Prepare to Submit.
5. Click Finish.
Teacher Feedback
1. Navigate to your course and select Reports, then TELPAS Readiness Writing.
2. Select the TELPAS Holistic Writing Practice icon.
3. Select a student’s name on the class report to pull up their individual report. Then click the Draft hyperlink of the composition that needs to be reviewed.
4. Read the student's Draft.
5. Leave Comments using the PLDs, ELPS, and TEKS tabs as guides. Indication of the Writing Process Stage is included. Teachers can also suggest up to 2 Revising Lessons for students to watch.
6. Click Finish to save all changes.
Student Revises & Edits
1. Students will navigate back to TELPAS Holistic Writing Practice and click Draft Reviewed for the composition.
2. Students can read any comments and watch the linked Video Lessons suggested by the teacher (optional).
3. In the same text box, students will revise and edit their composition as needed.
4. They will click Prepare to Submit.
5. Then click Finish to submit the Final Draft.
Scoring Final Draft
1. Navigate to your course and select Reports, then TELPAS Readiness Writing.
2. Select the TELPAS Holistic Writing Practice icon.
3. Select a student’s name on the class report to pull up their individual report. Then click the Final hyperlink of the composition that needs to be scored.
4. Read the student's Final Draft.
5. Type any final feedback in the text box using the PLDs, ELPS, and TEKS tabs as guides. Select B, I, A, or H to score the composition.
6. Click Save.
7. You should see a green notification that your Feedback has been submitted.
8. Click Finish.
9. The student's score will now appear on reports.
