Skill practices offered in the Writing Fundamentals section of the Reading-Writing course for K-1st students are building block activities that prepare younger students for the Writing Item Type quizzes they begin to see in 2nd grade on the TELPAS exam.
As younger students are typically new to typing and recognizing their sounds and letters, these quizzes can be done as whole-class instruction versus independently. Each skill will have 4 quizzes available that teachers unlock at their discretion throughout the year and, depending on the skill, will have 2-8 questions available.
- Kindergarten: All quizzes in each Type are auto-scored.
- First Grade: Quizzes in Type 2 are auto-scored, while quizzes in Types 3-5 will need to be rated by the teacher as they are open-ended Constructed Responses.
