What is ClassLink?
ClassLink is a third-party application that provides rostering and access to Summit K12 through a Single Sign-on (SSO). Districts can connect their Student Information System (SIS) to the Roster Server through the OneRoster API or upload CSV templates directly into the ClassLink Roster Server. Nightly syncing between ClassLink and Summit K12 results in the daily creation of any new student accounts that may be needed for enrollment into Summit K12 courses.
Adding Summit K12 and Modifying Permissions
ClassLink has an Adding Applications & Modifying Permissions Help Center article with an in-depth guide on adding vendors and setting up permissions. We will cover the main requirements below.
First, visit your Roster Server dashboard in ClassLink and add the Summit K12 application.
Next, set up the permissions based on the program purchased. Please only share those Users with Summit K12 that need access to a purchased program:
- If everyone at a school will be using the program, please grant Full Permissions
- Example: Summit K12 Accelerated Literacy and Language Development (ALLD) for all students K-5th at an elementary school
- If the program is purchased for a specific pool of students, please use Rule-Based Permissions
- Example: Summit K12 TELPAS Connect-to-Literacy for emergent bilingual (EB) students
- If you need to share data that is not currently on your Student Information System (SIS), please refer to ClassLink's Manual Records Help Center article
- If you need assistance with setting up permissions, we recommend contacting your ClassLink Representative or the ClassLink Help Center
File Formats
To complete rostering, Summit K12 requires the following:
Orgs
The Orgs table should contain all schools that will be using a Summit K12 program. Each of these schools is required to have their NCES ID# in the Identifier column.
- If you already have values in the Identifier column, please add a metadata column with the required field header: national_id
- This metadata column will then contain the NCES ID# for each school using Summit K12
If you need assistance locating a school's NCES ID#, please contact support@summitk12.com or submit a support request here.
If you need assistance with adding the NCES ID#s to your Orgs file, please contact the ClassLink Help Center or your ClassLink Representative.
Users
The Users table should only contain student Users that need to be shared with Summit K12. While teachers can access Summit K12 through the ClassLink Single Sign-on (SSO), they cannot currently be rostered for a class in Summit K12 through ClassLink.
Account usernames will be set up using district-issued email addresses. Please inform Summit K12 of the field that will be used for passwords. We recommend using the column that contains the students' ID numbers. Our team can map to the Sourced ID, Identifier, or Password column. This value will become the students' default password for manually logging on to Summit K12 at https://lms.summitk12.com.
Add Summit K12 to the ClassLink Launchpad
Add the Summit K12 application from the App Library to the Launchpad for Users to access Summit K12 through the ClassLink Single Sign-on (SSO). Please see ClassLink's Customizing Applications Help Center article for instructions.
Filtering
Depending on the product purchased, the Summit K12 Support team will sometimes ask for Users to be filtered before being shared with us. This is especially true for Summit K12's TELPAS Connect-to-Literacy program which is designed for emergent bilingual (EB) students who aren't always as easily identified in bulk exports.
Note: All Users shared in the Users file will have accounts created and will be available for teachers to enroll in their courses, thereby consuming licenses.
