WHAT ARE AVALANCHE WARNINGS?
Avalanche Warnings are an exciting new system-wide feature in the LMS that can alert both students and teachers when a student is moving too quickly through an assignment. Available in both English and Spanish, this student pacing notification serves as a reminder for students to slow down and complete their assignments with fidelity.
WHERE ARE THEY?
Avalanche Warnings will pop up on a student’s screen whenever they are moving too quickly through
an assignment. After three warnings, teachers can choose to require intervention before the student continues by enabling their Teacher Code.
Text and audio available in English and Spanish!
WHAT DO I NEED?
The student-facing Avalanche Warning is enabled by default. However, teachers can customize this
feature on the Course Settings page to require their intervention before a student can move forward. To
enable this option, teachers simply need to create a Teacher Code, which can be reset at any time.
1. Select My Account, then Settings in the dropdown menu.
2. Input your Teacher Code, select Save, and then toggle the button to enable the feature. Make sure your Teacher Code is at least 5 characters long, with numbers and text only.
WHAT DOES IT DO?
Avalanche Warnings provide immediate feedback to students, helping them recognize when they might be rushing through an assignment. If enabled by the teacher, three consecutive warnings in an assignment will pause the student from progressing until the teacher intervenes. This feature is all about support—there are no negative consequences for receiving a warning. Instead, it’s a tool to help students develop better pacing skills.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
Additionally, the Teacher Code functionality only works for users who are the primary teacher of their Summit K12 class. While admins or support teachers can enable the tool in their Course Settings, the code will only apply to classes in which they are the primary teacher.
