General Overview
The Newcomer Onramp Pathways are thoughtfully designed for 3rd through 12th-grade students who are new to the U.S. school system and may not yet have state ELP assessment scores. These students receive targeted support through a specialized onboarding sequence known as the Newcomer Onramp Trek.
Newcomer Onramp Treks
There are two distinct types of Onramp Treks available:
- Building Blocks Trek: Designed for students who do not have a reading code in their home language, indicating they are not yet able to read in their native language. This version emphasizes foundational language skills across all four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, helping students build essential literacy and communication competencies from the ground up.
- Transfer Skills Trek: Intended for students who possess a reading code in their home language, meaning they can read in their first language. This pathway leverages existing literacy skills to accelerate English language development through more advanced and strategic activities.
