What is Clever Secure Sync?
Clever Secure Sync is a third-party application that provides rostering and access to Summit K12 through a Single Sign-on (SSO). Districts can connect their Student Information System (SIS) through an Auto Sync with Clever or push CSV files directly into Clever using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). Subsequent updates to rosters are reflected in automated, nightly syncs between Clever and Summit K12. Partners would connect with the SK12 Secure Sync App on Clever.
Rostering Options with Clever Secure Sync
It is essential to choose the Clever rostering option more suitable for your SIS data and purchased Summit K12 subscription(s). Partners approved to use Clever Secure Sync as a rostering method can choose between two options: Roster Account Provisioning or Full Roster Integration.

Adding Summit K12 and Modifying Permissions
Clever has a For Clever Admins: Apps - Add/Request or Remove Apps Help Center article with an in-depth guide on adding vendors and setting up permissions. We will cover the main requirements below.
1. Visit your dashboard in Clever and add the SK12 Secure Sync application.
2. Set up the permissions based on the subscription(s) purchased. Please limit data to only users that need access to purchased subscription(s):
- If the subscription is purchased for a specific cohort of students, consider using For Clever Admins: Apps Filters
- If you need to share data that is not currently on your Student Information System (SIS), or need assistance with setting up permissions, we recommend contacting your Clever Representative or the Clever Link Help Center
3. Add the SK12 Secure Sync application from the Add Applications page to the portal for teachers and students to access Summit K12 through the Clever Single Sign-on (SSO). Please see Clever's Sharing Permissions: Share by Rules Help Center article for instructions.
Data Sharing Considerations
Data shared with Summit K12 on Clever Secure Sync should be limited to the students, teachers, staff, and/or sections for a purchased subscription.
All students, teachers, and staff shared will have accounts created. All students will be available for teachers to enroll in their classes. Once a student is enrolled in a class, a license will be consumed. Otherwise, a Full Roster Integration or an LMS integration will automatically handle student enrollment.
If the intended students are not in scheduled classes or if you’re unable to filter by a specialized cohort (e.g. students with an LEP/ELL indicator), consider using an alternative method for rostering students if it allows for greater filtering options:
Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)
Manual Rostering
Using Clever for Single Sign-On (SSO) Only
When students, teachers, or staff are rostered through alternative rostering solutions (i.e. SFTP, manual rostering), they can still use Clever for Single Sign-On (SSO) without connecting to Clever Secure Sync!
To do so, the Clever Administrator at the district will need to add the Summit K12 app found on the district’s Clever Dashboard > Applications > Add Applications page. Once added, they will need to assign the app to the appropriate teachers and students.
District-issued emails provided to Summit K12 through an alternative rostering method and the emails used to log in to Clever must be identical. If they fail to match, users will not be able to access Summit K12 through the Single Sign-on (SSO) until the necessary corrections are made.
Using Clever with LMS Integrations
Partners interested in using a Schoology, Canvas, or Google Classroom LMS integration (help articles coming soon!) with Summit K12 must have classes with teachers and students in the chosen LMS.
For Summit K12 content deployment and grade passback to properly function with your LMS integration, users are required to be enrolled in a class associated with the purchased subscription(s) on Summit K12. Therefore, partners must determine how classes and enrollment in Summit K12 will be handled.
Class creation and enrollment in Summit K12 can be handled through a Full Roster Integration or an LMS integration.
- A Full Roster Integration will handle class creation and user enrollment using the OneRoster data in your Clever Secure Syc. This may be preferred for users in scheduled classes in your SIS data.
- An LMS Integration can take care of class creation and student enrollment after students click on deployment links. This may be preferred for users in unscheduled classes in your SIS data.
A rostering method must be selected in conjunction with an LMS integration.
