If students in 1st-12th grades are unable to take an ELD Benchmark to generate a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) or if you would prefer to select your own Summit K12 assignments for students, assignments can be manually unlocked for independent practice on Summit K12. For students in Kindergarten, review our Implementation Guides for guidance on using Summit K12 (coming soon!).
Deciding what to unlock will depend on the district’s or school’s ELPAC Readiness subscription, the students’ English language proficiency, as well as any requirements established by the district regarding what students should be completing on Summit K12.
Summit K12 Support has compiled a list of recommended areas organized by Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) that administrators or teachers can unlock for students. Please note that these items are recommendations only and guidance should always be sought from administrators on what students should be working on between benchmark administrations and/or what students should be individually assigned.
Instructions on unlocking assignments are found in How to Unlock an Assignment - ELPAC.

*Listening, Speaking, and Reading ELPAC Readiness sections have an additional activity table with supplemental ELD practices. These ELD lessons and quizzes can be used as exercises to develop students' English language proficiency, but they are not modeled after the ELPAC item types. Unlock with discretion and contact your administrators for additional guidance if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions:
My student missed the Pre-Test or Interim ELD Benchmark, what should I have them work on until the next testing window opens up?
If the student has already completed a previous benchmark, they should focus on finishing up that designated PLP. If the student does not have a PLP yet, review the table of assignments above for ideas of what to assign. If you aren’t sure where to start, check out Summit K12’s Implementation Guides!
ELPAC is quickly approaching and my student was unable to take the Summative ELD Benchmark. What items are best to assign to prepare my students for similar questions they may see on the actual ELPAC assessment?
Administrators and Teachers should assign activities from the following course sections:
- Listening-Speaking - CA ELPAC Readiness Table
- Reading-Writing - Reading - CA ELPAC Readiness Table
- Reading-Writing - Writing - ELPAC Writing Practice-Mastery
Will students be required to complete the same assignments on their next Personalized Learning Plan (PLP)?
No, students will only be able to complete each assignment once. Previously completed assignments may show as complete on students’ next PLP.
Do I need to unlock assignments for Summit K12?
Assignments are automatically unlocked for students if they have taken a Benchmark and are working on their generated Personalized Learning Plan. It is recommended that assignments be manually unlocked for students who do not have a PLP.
