Use this guide to learn how to assign the STAAR Practice Test in Summit K12's Dynamic Sciences courses. Science assessments are only available in the STAAR-tested grade levels. To assign an activity, please view How to Assign an Activity - Dynamic Sciences. Information about unassigning content can be found in Assigning Summit K12 Activities.
1. Select My Course on your Teacher Dashboard or My Courses in the navigation bar.
2. Navigate to the class where you wish to assign an assessment. Assessments are found in the bottom STAAR Review section. Unlock this section first*, then select the STAAR Practice Test icon.
3. Select the Assign button.
4. Use the checkbox to select to which student(s) assign the practice test. All students who do not currently have the practice test assigned to them will be automatically selected. Only students enrolled in the selected class will appear.
5. Choose the Start Date & Time, Due Date & Time, and Close Date & Time for the practice test. The Due Date must be set after the Start Date and, if applicable, before the Close Date.
Start Date & Time (required): The date and time the test becomes available for students to access. The test will not appear on students’ dashboards until the Start Date & Time.
Due Date & Time (optional): The date and time the test must be completed.
Close Date & Time (optional): The test will be removed from the students' dashboard at the selected date and time and become unavailable for students to access. This field will auto-populate with a Close Date for the end of the year unless stated otherwise.
6. Select Apply and Assign to selected student(s). When new students are enrolled in the class, the system will not auto-assign the test. Teachers must return to the test and assign Start, Due, and/or Close dates for the newly enrolled students.
7. The Assign button will indicate whether the content has been assigned to none, some, or all students enrolled in the corresponding Summit K12 class.

Lead Teachers, Support Teachers, School Admins, or District Admins may assign tests for courses they have access to. This process should be repeated for any class that has tests you wish to administer*.
Students will access their assigned test from the My Assignments tab on their My Summit Base.
*Users can only assign assignments that are live and available. If an assignment is not available, the Assign button will be grayed out.
When a student submits their placement test, a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) will generate. For more details, see the related articles below:
