Learn how to assign a Benchmark in your RLA Mastery course for reading and writing development! RLA benchmarks are only available in STAAR-tested grade levels. To assign an activity, please view How to Assign an Activity - RLA Mastery. Information about reassigning or unassigning content can be found in Assigning Summit K12 Activities.
1. To assign a benchmark, select My Course on your Teacher Dashboard or My Courses in the navigation bar.
2. Navigate to your desired class whose benchmark(s) you wish to assign. Benchmarks are found under STAAR R/LA.

3. Select the corresponding Assign button of the benchmark you wish to assign.
4. Use the checkbox to select which student(s) the benchmark will be assigned to. All students who do not currently have the benchmark assigned in your class will be automatically selected. Only students enrolled in the selected class will appear.
5. Choose the Start Date & Time, Due Date & Time, and Close Date & Time for the benchmark*. The Due Date must be set after the Start Date and, if applicable, before the Close Date.
The Start and Close Date fields will automatically populate with the open and close dates of any testing windows set by your administration. If the Close Date is left blank, the benchmark will automatically close once your district's testing window has passed.
Start Date & Time (required): The date and time the assignment becomes available for students to access. The assignment will not appear on students’ dashboards until the Start Date/Time.
Due Date & Time (optional): The date and time the assignment must be completed.
Close Date & Time (optional): The assignment will be removed from the students' dashboard at the selected date/time and becomes unavailable for students to access. This field will auto-populate with a Close Date for the end of the year unless stated otherwise.
*Timestamps adhere to local computers.
6. Select Apply and Assign to selected student(s). When new students are enrolled in the class, the system will not auto-assign the benchmark. Teachers must return to the benchmark and assign Start, Due, and/or Close dates for the newly enrolled students.
If students are using the program with multiple teachers, the system may notify you if students have already been assigned the benchmark in another class.
A. To resume assigning the benchmark to students who do not currently have it assigned in your class, select Cancel. Students who have already been assigned the benchmark by another teacher will continue their progress. Scores for benchmarks completed in other classes will still appear on your class reports as long as the benchmark grade band is the same.
B. To replace the existing assignment and, if applicable, delete the existing attempt, choose student(s) under Replace Benchmark and then select Replace. This will create a new benchmark assignment tied to your class. Scores for benchmarks completed in this class will still appear on other teachers’ class reports as long as the benchmark grade band is the same.
7. The Assign button will indicate whether the content has been assigned to none, some, or all students enrolled in the corresponding Summit K12 class.
