Our Connect to Literacy TELPAS Readiness program offers ELD Benchmarks for 2nd-12th grade students that may be used to monitor students' English language proficiency. Listening and Speaking domains are tested together while Reading and Writing domains are tested together across 3 assessments:
- Pre-test
- Interim
- Summative
The assessments available in your TELPAS Readiness course depend on the subscriptions purchased for your district and/or campus.

Not sure when to administer the assessments? Consider viewing our suggested Implementation Guides and speak with your overseeing administration for additional guidance if needed.
Summit K12 has aligned the TELPAS Readiness assessments to the expectations and experience of the TELPAS exam. Students will be exposed to a variety of question types varying in format including, but not limited to, multiple choice, text entry, constructed responses, TEIs (Technology Enhanced Items), and microphone recordings.
We recommend emulating the TELPAS testing environment as much as possible during administration:
- Listening-Speaking Assessments: Use devices with built-in recording or microphone capabilities if students are tested one-on-one and headphones/headsets with microphones if students are tested in groups.
- Administer the assessments in an area where outside sounds and interruptions are minimized.
- Provide any designated supports or accommodations a student may need.
- Have scratch paper and pencils readily available.
Please note that Speaking items typically take longer for students to complete because each question encourages students to prepare an answer and practice reading their responses out loud before recording themselves.
- NOTE: Questions requiring the submission of a speaking recording will only allow for 2 attempts. Recording attempts, once used, cannot be reset and will need to be submitted as is.
Summit K12 recommends reviewing Student Guide - How to Record - TELPAS and Microphone Test on Summit K12 with students prior to administering the assessment to ensure students are set up for success.
The assessments progressively increase in length, so for each Pre-test and Interim, we suggest allocating one class period per assessment (approximately 45-60 minutes per assessment). Each Summative is a full-length TELPAS practice test that may take up to 2 class periods to complete.
