Make use of the built-in microphone test to ensure your microphone is enabled and working correctly before attempting to complete any Speaking activities in your Connect to Literacy class for English Language Development.
The mic test can be found in the toolbar.
Users can expect to see the microphone test icon in the toolbar for Speaking questions in the following sections:
- Speaking assessments
- Speaking item type quizzes for TELPAS Readiness, ELPAC Readiness, or WIDA Mastery
- Differentiated Practice for Speaking
- The Basics
1. Click the icon to access the microphone test.
2. Accessing the microphone for the first time on Summit K12? Users may see the following notifications requesting for access. Make sure to select Allow.

Once the microphone is enabled or if it was previously enabled on the device, you will see a green microphone in Box 1. Move on to Step 5 to continue.
If the microphone is not enabled on your device, you will see a red microphone in Box 1 and the following error notification.
3. Laptop/desktop users need to enable the microphone on the browser for the Summit K12 website. This is typically found in the browser settings under Privacy & Security.
You may need to refresh your web browser after updating your microphone settings.
iPad users will need to enable the microphone for the Summit K12 iOS application.
4. Click the icon again to re-open the microphone test. You will see a green microphone in Box 1 if it has been enabled successfully.
5. Click Test Your Microphone in Box 2.
6. Speak into your microphone.
If you see the green bars move, click YES. Your microphone is working! Move on to Step 7.
If you do not see the green bars move after speaking, click NO. This indicates the microphone is not detecting any sound.
- Check your system's audio settings and make sure you have a microphone connected.
- If the device does not have a built-in microphone, try using a headset with a microphone.
- Switch devices or headsets.
- Click the icon again to re-open the microphone test and,
- Contact a campus or district technician for additional assistance if needed.
7. Click Continue in Box 3.
8. The microphone test will close and you will be able to resume the Speaking activity. Users can access the microphone test as often as needed.
