Connect to Literacy - TELPAS Readiness includes up to 3 different courses whose contents vary depending on the grade level band a class is assigned:
- Listening-Speaking
- Reading-Writing
- ELPS Mastery
When enrolling students in a TELPAS Readiness course, ensure they are enrolled in the correct grade so that students are working with the appropriate grade-level content. This is especially important when unenrolling students in one class and enrolling them in another. Any progress made in the class they were initially enrolled in will transfer over to the new class, as long as the class contents are the same.
Read through the scenarios below to understand how the course differentiation may impact your implementation. Click here for information about viewing the grade level of your class.
Scenario A: Different grade, different grade level bands in both L-S and R-W
Mayra is a 3rd-grade student who was enrolled in a 4th-grade TELPAS Readiness class and took both pre-tests for Listening-Speaking and Reading-Writing. A score appears for both assessments and PLP #1 is generated. Later, a teacher removes Mayra from the 4th-grade class and enrolls her in a 3rd-grade class. Mayra's scores from the pre-tests will still appear on the administrator reports however when she logs in to her account, she will not see PLP #1 anymore and the pre-tests she submitted will disappear. This is because 3rd and 4th-grade courses are not in the same grade level band for Listening-Speaking OR Reading-Writing. All of her data will be archived under her previous grade level and will not be transferred to her new course. Mayra would need to retake both assessments in the new class she's been enrolled in.
Scenario B: Different grade, different grade level band in either L-S or R-W
Yesehak is a 9th-grade student enrolled in a class that has been assigned 12th-grade TELPAS content. He takes both interims for Listening-Speaking and Reading-Writing. A score appears for both assessments and PLP #2 is generated. A school administrator removes him from his class and enrolls him in a 9th-grade class. Yesehak's score and PLP #2 for Listening-Speaking will transfer because 9-12 grades are in the same Listening-Speaking grade level band on Summit K12. Yesehak's score and PLP #2 for Reading-Writing will not transfer because 9th grade is in a different band than 10-12 grades. When Yesehak logs in, his Interim and PLP #2 for Reading-Writing will disappear, and he will need to retake the assessment for Reading-Writing in the new class he's been enrolled in.
Scenario C: Different grade, same grade level band
Robbie is a 7th-grade student mistakenly enrolled in a 6th-grade class. They take the summative for Listening-Speaking and Reading-Writing, and PLP #3 is generated. The Campus Testing Coordinator notices Robbie has been enrolled in the wrong class and enrolls them in a 7th-grade class instead. Since 6-7 grades are in the same grade level band for both Listening-Speaking and Reading-Writing modules, all of Robbie's data will transfer over. They will not have to retake any assessments and can continue working on their generated PLP #3.
