Welcome to our comprehensive guide on enabling accommodations for students with individual learning plans. In this article, we will walk you through step-by-step instructions for teachers to enable specific accommodations, ensuring a seamless alignment with the support provided during the WIDA Assessments. For more information regarding our WIDA ELD Benchmark assessments, click here. (coming soon!)
Accommodations are available for the Speaking and Writing domains, in the Expressive Mode, and for the Listening domain, in the Interpretive Mode*. Enabled accommodations are available for the ELD Benchmarks and the WIDA-specific practice items.
*Accommodations are not available for the Reading domain of the WIDA Mastery course.

Enable Accommodations
To access WIDA accommodations, the teacher will choose one of their classes from the My Courses page.
All accommodations are housed in the Manage tab of each class.
After selecting Accommodations, the class roster will appear with a list of all available accommodations for the teacher to choose from. At this time, accommodations must be chosen individually with a Select All option coming soon!
Once the correct accommodations have been chosen, be sure to select Save. The accommodation changes will automatically reflect on the next page of the students’ assessments.
If enabled, accommodations can change the playback for the required audio recordings during the assessments. Normally, each recording automatically plays one time as soon as the student navigates to the next section of the exam, but the accommodations have two options to change the audio-recording standard feature.
Manual Control (MC)
In Manual Control (MC), the student will select the play button to manually start the audio recording. Once the audio has started, it cannot be stopped by the student, and it will only play one time.
If the Manual Control accommodation has been enabled, a play button will appear on the screen. The student will select the play button to begin the audio when they are ready.
Repeat Audio (RA)
In Repeat Audio (RA), the audio recording will automatically play when the student opens the next section of the exam. The student will be able to use the replay button to play the audio recording again.
View the table below to see how the Repeat Audio (RA) accommodation functions in each domain.
If the Repeat Audio accommodation has been enabled, a replay button will appear on the screen. The student will select the replay button to hear the recording again.
Applying Both Manual Control (MC) and Repeat Audio (RA)
Teachers can enable both accommodation options for students if needed. This will allow the student to use the Manual Control to decide when the audio begins playing. After the audio has played one time, the play button will change to the repeat button. Then, the student can repeat the audio again.
Accommodation Error
Summit K12 recommends setting all accommodations before administering the ELD Benchmarks. If for any reason a student begins an ELD Benchmark with the incorrect accommodation or without a needed accommodation, the teacher can make the necessary changes on their account, and the student will see the accommodation change on the next page*.
If a student needs a reset to attempt the assessment again due to an accommodation error, the teacher can contact Summit K12 Support by email at support@summitk12.com or by calling 844-331-4737. The teacher will need to provide the student’s district-assigned email address and specify which assessment will need to be reset.
*The student may also log out and log back in to see any accommodation changes. It is best practice to clear the cache on the device when following this method. To learn more about clearing the cache on a device, click here.
