Individualized Language Learning Plans (ILLPs) are generated for students in 1st-12th grade after taking the required ELD Benchmark(s). If students are unable to take an ELD Benchmark to generate an ILLP, or if you would prefer to select Summit K12 assignments for students to complete, assignments can be manually unlocked for independent practice on Summit K12. Deciding what to unlock will depend on the students’ English language proficiency, as well as any requirements established by your administrators regarding what students should be completing on Summit K12.
Summit K12 Support has compiled a list of recommended areas organized by Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) that administrators or teachers can unlock for students. Please note that these items are recommendations only and guidance should always be sought from administrators on what students should be working on between benchmark administrations and/or what students should be individually assigned.

These ELD lessons and quizzes can be used as exercises to develop students’ English language proficiency, but they are not modeled after the WIDA item types. Unlock at your discretion and contact your administrator if additional guidance is needed.

My student missed the Pre-Test or Interim ELD Benchmark, what should I have them work on until the next testing window opens up?
If the student has already completed a previous benchmark, they should focus on finishing up that designated ILLP. If the student does not have an ILLP yet, review the table of assignments above for ideas of what to assign. If you aren’t sure where to start, check out Summit K12’s Implementation Guide!
ACCESS is quickly approaching and my student was unable to take the Summative Benchmark. What items are best to assign to prepare my students for similar questions they may see on the actual assessment?
Administrators and teachers should assign activities from the following course sections:
- Interpretive Mode - Access Readiness - Listening
- Interpretive Mode - Access Readiness - Reading
- Expressive Mode - Access Readiness - Speaking
- Expressive Mode - Access Readiness - Writing
Will students be required to complete the same assignments on their next Individualized Language Learning Plan (ILLP)?
No, students will only be able to complete each assignment once. Previously completed assignments may show as complete on students’ next ILLP.
Do I need to unlock assignments for Summit K12?
Assignments are automatically unlocked for students if they have taken the required benchmark(s) and are working on their generated ILLP. It is recommended that assignments be manually unlocked for students that do not have an ILLP.
