Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) are generated for students in K-12th grade after taking the required ELD Assessment(s). If students are unable to take an ELD Assessment to generate a PLP, or if you would prefer to select Summit K12 assignments for students to complete, assignments can be manually assigned for independent practice on Summit K12. For further guidance, review our Implementation Guide for using Summit K12.
Deciding what to assign will depend on the students’ English language proficiency, as well as any requirements established by your administrators regarding what students should be completing on Summit K12.
Summit K12 Support has compiled a list of recommended areas organized by Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs) that administrators or teachers can assign for students. Please note that these items are recommendations only and guidance should always be sought from administrators on what students should be working on between assessment administrations and/or what students should be individually assigned.

Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing ELD Mastery sections have an additional activity table with supplemental ELD practices. These ELD lessons and quizzes can be used as exercises to develop students’ English language proficiency, but they are not modeled after the WIDA© item types. Assign at your discretion and contact your administrator if additional guidance is needed.
Frequently Asked Questions:
My student missed an ELD Assessment, what should I have them work on until the next testing window opens up?
If the student has already completed a previous assessment, they should focus on finishing up that designated PLP. If the student does not have an PLP yet, review the table of assignments above for ideas of what to assign. If you aren’t sure where to start, check out Summit K12’s Implementation Guide!
ACCESS is quickly approaching and my student was unable to take an assessment. What items are best to assign to prepare my students for similar questions they may see on the actual assessment?
Administrators and teachers should assign activities from the following course sections:
- Interpretive Mode - ELD Readiness - Listening
- Interpretive Mode - ELD Readiness - Reading
- Expressive Mode - ELD Readiness - Speaking
- Expressive Mode - ELD Readiness - Writing
Will students be required to complete the same assignments on their next Personalized Learning Plan (PLP)?
No, students will only be able to complete each assignment once. Previously completed assignments may show as complete on students’ next PLP.
Do I need to assign assignments for Summit K12?
Assignments are automatically assigned for students if they have taken the required assessment(s) and are working on their generated PLP. It is recommended that assignments be manually assigned for students who do not have a PLP.
