Summit K12 embeds Short Constructed Response (SCRs) items in the full-length practice test located in the supplemental STAAR/EOC Review section of Dynamic Science/Spanish Science (5th/8th) and Dynamic Biology. Alignment with TEA guidelines is ensured by imposing a 475-character limit for SCRs. Punctuation will count toward the maximum number of characters, but spaces will not.
This guide will show you how to find and score students' SCRs on the STAAR/EOC Practice Test.
1. Log in and select My Course on your Teacher Dashboard or My Courses in the navigation bar.
2. Select Reports on the STAAR Readiness section of the desired class.
3. Under the STAAR ReadinessⓇ reports, select Practice Test and PLP Progress to view the report.
4. On the class report, you will see a list of enrolled students. Select the fraction under the SCR column to view the students’ responses.
A. The fraction indicates how many SCRs have not been scored.
B. If all SCRs are scored, then this column will show the average score.
5. Select the green Score: Pending bar to view the built-in rubric*.
6. Score the student’s response. Scroll down to use the Grader Information for scoring guidelines. Select Save when you are finished.
7. Follow the same process to score other SCRs and select Finish at the bottom of the page to go back to the report.
8. If an SCR needs to be rescored, select the student’s Total Score to view the practice test and locate the constructed response.
💡Tip: Use hotkeys (Ctrl + G) and search for “score” to quickly locate the SCRs.
9. Select the green Score bar to open the rubric, then Edit to change the score.
10. Select Save when you are finished.
*Summit K12's rubrics for the Science Constructed Response items follow the scoring guidelines released by TEA (10/07/22). Please view their website to learn more.
