General Information
Summit K12 Usage Reports provide student information, last login date, total logins, estimated usage minutes, and a count of completed quizzes for each student over a set period of time. Totals for each category are located at the bottom of each column.
Usage Reports have slight differences based on a User’s role in Summit K12:
- District Administrators
- Able to see aggregate usage for multiple schools - aggregates in this view update every 30-35 minutes
- Able to filter by School, Teacher, and Class
- For accurate results, a School must be selected before filtering by Teacher and Class
- School Administrators
- Able to see aggregate usage for multiple teachers - aggregates in this view update every 30-35 minutes
- Able to filter by Teacher and Class
- Teachers
- Aggregates in this view update every 30-35 minutes
- Teachers with multiple classes can filter by desired class
All Users can filter data by selecting specific date ranges. Anyone with usage during a chosen date range will appear on the report. By default, the date range is set from August 1st of the current school year to the present day.
Administrators are able to export a colorized report by selecting the button “Export Usage for all Students” which is located to the right above the usage report chart. This report will show all students based on any applied filters and will be downloaded to your device.
Student data is tied to the student’s account. A student must be enrolled in a class to appear on the Usage Report. When a student is unenrolled from a course, their data will be removed from the report the following day. If a student is later re-enrolled in the same teacher’s course or enrolled in a different teacher’s course for the same product, the data will transfer and will reappear on the next day’s usage report as long as they have been active on Summit K12 for the chosen filtering parameters.
How Usage Minutes are Determined*
Usage minutes are updated in real-time and are based on checking the activity of logged-in students at regular intervals to see whether they are actively engaged with the site. Usage begins calculating as soon as students progress to the point in Summit K12 where they are presented with specific activities.
Once students reach a list of Activities, Assessments, or their Personalized Learning Plan, Summit K12 will regularly query their activity every 30 seconds to determine their total usage minutes.
Playing Videos and Reading eBooks
Given the passive nature of watching instructional videos by students, those users may not be “active” in the same ways that they are for the rest of their Summit K12 course. To accommodate students viewing videos or ebooks, their usage will continue to be counted for up to 15 minutes even if they aren’t actively interacting with the page during that time. Any true activity by the student during that time will be counted as usual and will reset the 15-minute usage cap if they return to passive viewing after that.
* Note - There are limits on what is possible to confirm regarding student engagement, just as is true for teachers providing in-person instruction. The Summit K12 Usage Minutes determination is our best estimate of a student's activity on the site.
On rare occasions when Usage Minutes are not able to be determined in real-time, it may be necessary to backfill this data through estimates whose calculations are based on assessment and quiz completion.
